Projects
I am currently working on two projects at different stages of completion. Writing is very scary and intimidating. I am not sure at all I have this style of writing in me. Novels exercise a different muse than scholarly writing, and I have only an amateur's familiarity with the techniques of fashioning interesting stories.
One book is called the History of Blaudus and arose out my reading of Bertrand Russell's history of western thought which I was able to download for free online. I wanted to remember and learn the history so I began to write fictionalized stories based on what I was reading. Now it is at a point where I have to decide if the project is worth continuing or not.
My novel project which has gotten further than my previous attempts at a novel (I had one about the Korean War at one point) is a story about a theater and music major who is pressured to pursue a legal career caught up in a defense industry case. It's an exploration of art and responsibility with a twist with wider themes around national defense and Washington culture.
I will probably end up self-publishing these initial attempts, and this blog is in large part an ancillary exploration of themes that I am exploring for these two projects. For example, I just got done re-exploring a book I read in graduate school and I wanted to straighten out some ideas in my head, so I blogged about the book to get it all sorted out so I can explore it in my writing.
